Pleiades (Seven Sisters)
Price: $100
This open star cluster in the constellation Taurus is a popular object in the night sky and was important to the establishment of early calendars due to its location in the sky and relationship to the path of the moon. Located at a distance of only 444 light years, it is an easy naked eye object where the goal is to try and see the seven brighter stars known as the “Seven Sisters”.
Bubble Nebula
Price: $100
The Bubble nebula in the constellation Casseopia is a hydrogen emission nebula created by the stellar wind from a young central star which burns a million times brighter than our sun. The nebula is located 7,100 light years away and has taken about four million years to form.
Pinwheel Galaxy
Price: $100
This face-on spiral galaxy is about 21 million light-years away and at 170,000 light-years across is about twice the size of our Milky Way galaxy. Located in the constellation Ursa Major (the Great Bear) it contains approximately one trillion stars. As a circumpolar object, it is visible year-round.
Horsehead and Flame Nebulas
Price: $85
The dark Horsehead nebula and the bright emission Flame nebula, on the left, are located near the easternmost star, Alnitak, in Orion’s Belt. The field of red hydrogen gas is blocked by the dust cloud that forms the Horsehead silhouette, whereas the Flame is an emission nebula excited by ultraviolet light from a central star in the nebula. Both objects are about 1,350 light-years away in the constellation Orion.
