The night sky over Grand Junction, Colorado offers an exceptional viewing window for stargazers. On the 7th November The Moon is a thin waning crescent (approx. 7% illuminated), providing a perfectly dark sky with minimal light interference to view deep sky objects and planets.
• Saturn: Excellent visibility. It reaches its highest point in the southern sky shortly after sunset and remains well-placed for observing much of the night in the constellation Cetus.
• Neptune: Visible most of the night in Pisces, though it requires binoculars or a small telescope due to its faintness.
• Uranus: Visible all night in Taurus. Approaching its late November opposition, it is bright enough to potentially glimpse with the naked eye under Grand Junction's dark desert skies, though binoculars are recommended.
The start time of the event is 5:30pm through to 10pm any volunteers should setup around 5pm.
Please arrive at least 10 minutes before the start of the program to minimize headlight glare. “Red flashlights or headlights are to be used only”. This will help preserve everyone's night vision. Dress warm for your comfort.
