Whether you are an absolute beginner just wanting to finally learn your night sky, or an advanced amateur who has spent a lifetime interested in astronomy, we have a place for you. Regardless of your experience level, we have club members just starting out and others who have done extensive observational work and know their equipment like a favorite tool used a thousand times. We have members who simply enjoy being out with others who like doing the same things they do, just looking up, and those with extensive backgrounds in science, physics and math who feel it now time to share this knowledge with others in our volunteer presentations and programs we do throughout the valley.
Like the idea of volunteering at our National or State Parks doing astronomical shows and events for people from all over the country? We want you with us, because that’s a part of what we do in our outreach programs.
Enjoy asking the “big” questions in Cosmology and don’t want to stop at how? We have those who also ask “why” and wonder at the “purpose” of the cosmos.
Do you just love to tinker with complex equipment and enjoy a good challenge? We have fellow members heavily into astrophotography teasing that last pixel of usable light out their CCD cameras and scopes ready to do it with you. Thinking of building your own backyard observatory? Yep, we’ve got that covered, too.
If you’d like to finally get into a hobby that is as deep and wide as some of the greatest rivers on our planet, then we have just the club to facilitate that flowing fascination: amateur astronomy.
Not a “meeting” person; no problem. We’ll see you “in the field” after the sun goes down on some of our many nightly outings. Want to participate in the running of the club and have special clerical, or computer skills? Hey, that’s a “plus” we hope you’ll want to share. Do you just want to know which scope to buy that will do what you’ve always wanted from a telescope? Come to our place and find out what vendors are selling the scope that will satisfy your desire. Like the idea of getting a discount, too? We have that as well from some of our “special” vendors.
Finally, if you just like having fun, kidding around with others and playfully pursuing a very complex and yet ultimately mesmerizing subject, then the Western Colorado Astronomy Club should become one of your favorite haunts as well. We like it and feel you will, too.
Just click on either of the “Just click here to get started.” links above to bring up the club application, hit “print” on your PC and mail in your application. If you have trouble with the PDF file, then use the Word Doc
Come on down take a trip with us: from the beginnings of the universe, or just out to Jupiter and Saturn and see it all for yourself. We guarantee at least a few good “wows” and a “Did you see that!?” or two for your time and dues.
